Artecola was founded the May 5, 1948 as Factory Paint and Glue Ltda. in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. Francisco Xavier Kunst, with the support of his wife, Irma, he sold his house to form the initial capital, partnering with Albano Adams, owner of Calçados Adams, who was his first client.
In 1954, after changes in the corporate structure, the company was renamed Kunst and Algayer Ltda.
In 1958 joined the company four of the five sons of the founder, who has since always had at least two generations working together. In 1959 a new change, the corporate gave rise to the name F. Xavier Kunst & Cia.
The following years marked significant progress in the company. In 1963the Shoe Factory, Andarsa, belonging to F. Xavier Kunst & Cia., it started its operations. In 1965started production of adhesive synthetic. With the new product, the company became a pioneer in the region in technical consulting to their clients.
In 1970, the organization began to export to Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico and Colombia.
In 1973 extending the line of products offered to the market, joining the adhesives produced until then buttresses, armor, linings, and insoles.
In 1978a great fire destroyed the only factory in the neighborhood of Canudos, Novo Hamburgo (RS). In less than a week, the entire flow of production and delivery back to normal, which proves the strength of the company, that grew each year. Force which was consolidated with the opening of the new plant in Campo Bom (RS), in 1979, when it was renamed Artecola Indústrias Chemical Ltda.
During the 80's, members of the third generation of the family Kunst began to working at the company. En los años 90, Artecola obtuvo la certificación ISO 9001. En 1999, se creó Artegor Laminados Especiais, una empresa conjunta con G.O.R. del Grupo Solvay.
En 1997, Artecola comenzó su proceso de internacionalización, marcando el inicio de su expansión en América Latina.
In the year 2000, Artecola Chile and Artecola Mexico began their operations in this country.
Operations in Argentina began in 2002 and, the following year, Artecola also began operations in Peru.
Year 2003 it marked the death of the company founder, Francis Xavier Kunst.
The acquisition of PIN Colombia occurred in 2004. In 2006 acquires another company in São Paulo. International expansion intensified in 2007with the acquisition of four companies in Chile, Peru, Argentina and Mexico. In 2008 acquired another company in Mexico.
With this, the company becomes a leader in Latin america, such as projecting their Strategic Planning. In 2010, Artecola Química obtained the certification ISO 14001/2004 and started the new cycle of the PE.
Artecola formed a joint venture stake in orisolcreating Artesol in China for the production of adhesives powder (Artepowder). That same year, the company also strengthened its presence in Colombia with the corporate alliance Pegatex Artecola.
Over the years, Artecola has worked in many other sectors and associations. However, in 2016the company decided to revise its strategy and began to focus solely on their chemical sector and in Latin America, turning away from other businesses.
The company has renewed its focus on the chemicals business, ushering in Colombia plant stickers more modern of Latin americareinforcing its growth in the chemical sector in the region.
Artecola held its 70th anniversary with the opening of the Memorial Artecola in Campo Bom (RS)as part of the celebration of their legacy and their commitment to innovation.
In 2019, Artecola conducted an investigation of image in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile, to evaluate the perception of their products in various markets.
Artecola presented a new strategic identity and rebranding the brand Afix in all of Latin America. The change of colors and shapes marked the beginning of a new stage: a company catalyst transformation proudly multilatina.
In addition, Afix becomes the trademark of Artecola. The whole appearance of the products and packaging, is now unified in Latin America.
In 2022, Artecola began the cultural transformation with the program We Are Manyfocused on promoting diversity and inclusion in all countries where it operates, mapping the business culture in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
In 2023, Artecola celebrated 75 years of existence, and presented its new strategic vision: "Join together has more value than separately". In addition, we autodeclaramos a company carbon neutral, in line with the objectives of sustainability.
In 2024, Artecola launched their new culture Goal: "Be the movement that transforms the future"further solidifying its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and its role as a catalyst of positive change in the region.
